Trades in sports can provide hope for sports fans and players alike. For the fan it gives them
hope that the newly acquired player will be that missing piece needed to finally win a
championship. For the player it gives them hope that the new team will provide them an
opportunity to win a ring. Trades happen because one team loves a specific player so much that
they are willing to give up something of great value to acquire that player for their team. Much
like a trade in sports where teams give up something of value for a player in hopes of winning a
championship, God gave up his Son in a trade so that you could have the hope of eternal life
with him. John 3:16 says that “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son and
whosoever believes shall not perish but have everlasting life.” Furthermore, the bible says in 1
John 5:11 and 12 that God has given us eternal life in his Son and whoever has the Son has
life…” God traded his most valuable team member, his Son, because he loves us so much and
values us to the point he wants us to win the ultimate championship with him, eternal life in
heaven. The hope this gives us is beyond measure. No matter how much this world may trouble
us we have hope in Him that we can overcome the world and have eternal life with Him. All we
have to do is dedicate our lives to him in return.
Dear Lord, thank you for being willing to trade your most valuable team member, your Son, so
that we can have hope in you. A hope that gives us assurance of being on your team for eternity
in heaven. Thank you Jesus for being willing to be traded on the cross for our hope of salvation.
Furthermore, Lord please help us to remember everyday that our hope in you Lord. In Jesus
Name Amen.
